The rich culture of Manchester, England includes a diverse base of art, architecture, music, theatre and sports. The urban city has something to entertain people of any interest and any cultural interest with many art galleries, museums, musical venues and much more.

Two local artists are also internationally known; Chris Ofili and L. S. Lowry. Several of the local galleries feature the work of these and other local artist in addition to famous works of art. Art enthusiasts will want to visit the Athenaeum and Manchester Art Galleries. The Manchester features a civic collection and art that is specific to the Manchester region as well as significant international arts. The gallery features the work of Pierre Adolphe Valette, an important French artist who painted and taught in Manchester in the early 20th century.

Manchester has a large number of museums that cover the history and industry of the region. The Manchester Jewish Museum explores the history of the Jewish roots in the area while the People’s History Museum houses an extensive collection of material relating to the history of working people in the UK.

This urban city’s eclectic flavour of music is a reflection of the make up of the city. Manchester studios have recorded some of the world’s most famous artist; The BeeGees, The Hollies, Sex Pistols and many more. The Manchester Arena is the venue for most pop and rock concert events.

Classical music is well represented with two symphony orchestras and a chamber orchestra. The modern Bridgewater Hall is home to the Halle Orchestra and is one of Europe’s most technologically advanced facilities. The concert hall seats 2,500 and features some of the most outstanding concerts in England.

The theatres of Manchester provide a wide range of shows from small to the large scale productions. The Manchester Opera House can seat 2,000 patrons and houses the large scale touring shows such as ballet, musicals and a spectacular Christmas pantomime.
